ICLguru's latest software update enhances the clinical workflow by significantly reducing the time it takes to calculate ICL sizing recommendations. Now, ICLguru runs preliminary calculations in the background at each step of the process, eliminating a lengthy loading screen after the final step. Utilizing high-quality ultrasound images from the Sonomed Escalon VuMAX HD and VuPad with ICLguru is now more streamlined than ever.

Sonomed Escalon was proud to participate in the APAO 2026 Congress in Hong Kong, hosting a successful distributor meeting & workshop and showcasing our solutions at the exhibition booth.

Over the course of the event, we had the pleasure of connecting with partners, distributors, and clinicians from around the region, engaging in valuable discussions, live demonstrations, and knowledge exchange. Last week, our team had a productive visit to South Korea, marking the official launch of UBM AI + ICL Guru at Nuri Eye Hospital in Daejeon — the first site in the country to implement this technology.

The launch took place in a simple ceremony, led by Dr. Seongjun Lee, who highlighted the significant improvement in ICL sizing accuracy. In his own words:

"With the introduction of the ‘UBM AI ICL Guru,’ we are now able to predict ICL sizes more accurately. This has significantly enhanced the safety and stability of our ICL implantation procedures, and I am very pleased to see the improved outcomes for our patients."

During the visit, our team also provided additional clinical education on UBM-based evaluation, supporting the growth of the hospital’s ICL practice. Dr. Lee plans to collect clinical data and present his results at the upcoming KOS meeting in November, and we look forward to a strong collaboration.

Last Friday, Sonomed Escalon participated in the STAAR LATAM Distributors Meeting in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, presenting an advanced educational video demonstrating the capabilities of UBM AI + ICLguru to distributors across Latin America.

The meeting also focused on planning for 2026 and supporting the growth of the EVO ICL as a leading option in refractive surgery in the region.

As part of NORSURC 2025, we conducted a hands-on wet lab training for six doctors at Clínica Vidava in Chiclayo, under the guidance of Dr. Enrique Pfeiffer. The training was conducted using the VuMax HD ultrasound system from Sonomed Escalon.

Participants worked with UBM and explored the capabilities of UBM AI, developed to work seamlessly with ICL Guru. The Sonomed Escalon system features Eye Tracking, Align Assist, and Auto Capture AI, enabling automatic eye alignment, high-quality image capture, and highly accurate calculations for ICL vault prediction.

Doctors honed their practical skills and deepened their understanding of advanced ophthalmic technologies, improving diagnostic precision and patient care. This hands-on approach helps drive innovation and advances ophthalmic education across the region.

Enrique Pfeiffer, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Sonomed Escalon, delivered a special presentation: “UBM AI & ICLguru Pro: Image Capture and ICL Vault Prediction” at the NORSURC 2025 International Ophthalmological Course, one of the key academic events in the region focused on scientific updates and professional knowledge exchange in ophthalmology.  Dr. Pfeiffer highlighted our advanced UBM AI and ICLguru technology: the only UBM system featuring Eye Tracking, Align Assist, and Auto Capture AI, ensuring the highest-quality images for the most accurate calculations.

At the annual congress dedicated to the latest approaches and technologies in glaucoma diagnostics and management, Sonomed Escalon and our official partner, Stormoff, presented the portable ultrasound system VuPad, designed for comprehensive and efficient ophthalmic assessment, including ICL sizing through UBM AI + ICLguru.

Dr. Mandagi presented at the Hai Yen Eye Care Hospital symposium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where he was one of the few international speakers invited. Dr. Mandagi shared the latest advancements in ICL technology and highlighted the benefits of using ICLguru, including how the system accurately predicts both the lens vault and the resultant angle for each available ICL size, ensuring a precise fit and optimal outcomes.

Nearly 2500 ophthalmologists from across the world met at the 59th National Congress of the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOA) in Antalya. We were pleased to participate together with our partner Medisa, presenting the Sonomed Escalon VuPad ultrasound platform. A key highlight was a productive ultrasound training session with the Medisa sales team. We appreciate the warm welcome and the chance to connect with colleagues and partners from across Türkiye.

Of course, some of the primary reasons you probably use UBM AI + ICLguru is optimizing surgical outcomes, including maximizing patient safety, improving surgeon and patient confidence, and maximizing practice efficiency. Discussing the benefits of the technology during pre-op consultation with ICL patients helps give them confidence in the procedure and can also be used to help give a patient a more comprehensive understanding of the benefits and risks of ICL when deciding upon potential refractive options. Beyond your current patients, practices can prospectively communicate their use of UBM AI + ICLguru, the investment in patient care that represents, and the benefits in surgical outcomes to attract patients to their practice. Sonomed Escalon UBM ICL + ICLguru user Devy Mandagi has been invited by STAAR Surgical to deliver the keynote address on ICL sizing at the Insight for Sight conference to be held at Hai Yen Eye Care in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on 29 November 2025. Dr. Mandagi will present challenges faced by surgeons in ICL sizing and discuss the different ICL sizing methods currently available. He will present his results using UBM AI + ICLguru, demonstrating its clear place as the standard of care and its ability to expand the pool of patients eligible for ICL due to its predictive accuracy.
