Attracting More Patients
9 October 2025

Of course, some of the primary reasons you probably use UBM AI + ICLguru is optimizing surgical outcomes, including maximizing patient safety, improving surgeon and patient confidence, and maximizing practice efficiency. Discussing the benefits of the technology during pre-op consultation with ICL patients helps give them confidence in the procedure and can also be used to help give a patient a more comprehensive understanding of the benefits and risks of ICL when deciding upon potential refractive options. Beyond your current patients, practices can prospectively communicate their use of UBM AI + ICLguru, the investment in patient care that represents, and the benefits in surgical outcomes to attract patients to their practice. In the near future, Sonomed Escalon will launch a page on The Hub dedicated to strategies, methods, and resources to help your practice do just that. We’d love to hear how your practice already makes such efforts and what Sonomed Escalon can do to support you.

Prospective Patient Education
30 September 2025

UBM AI + ICLguru user Brendan Cummings MD posted an excellent patient education blog on Wellington Eye Clinic’s Facebook page for those considering vision correction but not sure if LASIK or ICL is right for them (and likely in some cases to introduce ICL as a potential option). In the article, he talks about how both treatments can give freedom from glasses and contacts but they work in different ways and may suit different eyes, prescriptions, and lifestyles. He also describes the patient experience, including undergoing advanced diagnostics to thoroughly assess their eyes before making any recommendations. Explaining the process of evaluation can both prepare a patient for what to expect and give them confidence that the best options will be presented and that the chosen option will have the best outcomes.

Driving Continual Improvement
25 September 2025

Just as post-op follow-up is a crucial part of ICL surgery to assess lens placement and patient visual acuity, safety, and comfort, also of critical importance is entering post-op results into the REVAI ICLguru interface. The sophisticated deep-learning AI model developed by ICLguru can only be put to good use with post-op data fed in by its users. Doing so drives further refinement of the algorithms leading to even greater degrees of accuracy. Please do your part to help ICLguru help you help your patients by entering post-op results.
Sharing Experiences at IOA 2025
20 September 2025
Devy Mandagi MD delivered a presentation about ICL surgery and the use of Sonomed Escalon UBM AI + ICLguru during a Triastri Speakers Corner event at the IOA 2025 Congress in Bandung, Indonesia on 4 September 2025. Following the 40-minute talk, he performed a live demonstration of a UBM AI exam. Interestingly, Dr. Mandagi compared sizing recommendations obtained from UBM AI + ICLguru against the Casia2 sizing calculator, with both exams being performed on one of his patients during the IOA itself. ICLguru recommended a 12.1 mm ICL size while the Casia2 recommended 12.6 mm. Dr. Mandagi implanted the 12.1 mm lens and was rewarded for his confidence in UBM AI + ICLguru with excellent results as predicted; the 12.6 mm size would have resulted in excessive vault.

Thanks for an Informative ESCRS 2025 Sonomed Escalon Speakers Corner
14 September 2025

A distinguished panel presented their experiences and insights on using UBM AI + ICLguru at the ESCRS 2025 Sonomed Escalon Booth Speakers Corner:
Roger Zaldivar MD spoke about the latest advancements in predictive accuracy and rotational stability assessment now introduced with ICLguru Pro.
Devy Mandagi MD discussed specific cases, including one patient where ICL implantation had been previously ruled out due to shallow ACDs, but with UBM AI + ICLguru identifying a suitable lens size and the confidence of the predicted accuracy, patient and surgeon decided to proceed with implantation with great success.
Brendan Cummings MD talked about Wellington Eye Clinic’s experiences with vastly improved accuracy leading to increased confidence in recommending ICLs and a doubling of their ICL implant cases year-over-year since implementing UBM AI + ICLguru.
Robert Ang MD presented comparative analysis of different sizing methods over more than 100 cases, showing UBM AI + ICLguru vastly superior and immediately driving his explant rate to zero.
Thank you to all the speakers for sharing and helping to advance knowledge and gain acceptance of UBM AI + ICLguru as the standard of care for ICL sizing.

ICLguru Results Published
10 August 2025
The accuracy of ICLguru is unprecedented. A recent study of over 300 EVO ICL patients showed that the majority of patients had less than a 100 micron difference between the predicted and actual post-surgical lens vault and no cases requiring explant and resizing. The results truly represent the next generation in lens sizing leading ICLguru to quickly become the standard of care for leading surgeons.
